You will be given a copy of Defining Moments (not very often we use a textbook, is it?). Turn to page 90 for the story The Rink.
Please read through the sections called Before You Read and Try This. You will not need to write anything for this part...just keep the questions in mind.
Begin reading the story silently to yourself. You may wish to skim it a bit to get the general idea and character names. Try to place in your mind who the main characters are. After about ten minutes or so, you will need to read this story as a class. Either volunteer to read aloud, or make Mr. Hobbs do it. He loves to read aloud...just ask him!
When you have completed the reading, please answer these questions on paper in the Reading section of your notebook. If you are unsure of some of the definitions, please refer to your notes, or check them out on yesterday's wiki for LA:
1) Write a brief journal entry giving your opinions and feelings about The Rink
2) Who is the protagonist of the story? How do you know this?
3) Create a plotline for this story. Remember to include introduction, conflict, rising action, crisis, climax, denouement.
That's it...if you have time at the end, you can go to the Magnetic Poetry site.
